NAME: Oshiro Taiyo
CODE NAME: Dark Sun
ALIGNMENT: Pro Hero
TITLE: (Not Yet!)
AGE: Thirty-Four
GENDER: Male
QUIRK NAME: Personal Gravity Field (PGF)
QUIRK CLASSIFICATION: Emitter
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Taiyo is able of manipulating the current effects of gravity on his own person. This makes him capable of rapidly accelerating, decelerating, 'sticking' to surfaces, and he is technically capable of pseudo-flight (though the farther from the ground he goes, the less 'powerful' his gravity manipulation becomes). While using this Quirk to boost his speed, he is capable of either 'sliding' along the ground or 'hovering' directly above it at a speed of about 25 MPH (around the speed of a racing bike), and is capable of completely halting and changing his momentum within a few seconds, though this is more draining on his Quirk. Accelerating and decelerating isn't instant though, and can take a few seconds to actually activate.
QUIRK POWER LIMIT: Taiyo is capable of utilizing his Quirk for things such as attaching to the side of walls and moving slightly faster than normal for about an hour and a half of constant use. Advanced techniques such as max speed or sticking to ceilings cuts his total time down to about forty-five minutes. His 'flight' only works as long as he is within twenty meters of ground below him, and can only be used consistently for about twenty minutes. Overuse of his Quirk causes full-body pain, difficulty breathing, and potential temporary paralysis.
QUIRK TECHNICAL LIMIT: Taiyo's Quirk generally only works at its current 'max' weight limit - being himself and whatever gear he carries. Too much extra weight (such as another Quirk, or trying to grab another person) and his Quirk will simply fail to work. This is typically anything heavier than the average microwave. It's main advantage is also mitigated in close-quarters spaces.
QUIRK FACTOR:
Power 2
Finesse 1
Stamina 2
SUPER MOVE: CRUSHING VORTEX > For a single post, Taiyo can push his Quirk beyond its' normal limit - speeding his body forward at around 40 MPH to crash into an enemy or make a hasty retreat.
COSTUME: Taiyo's costume is generally lightweight to make the best use of his Quirk, and to compensate for his low defense he typically carries around a specialized Hankyū, which by default has both blunted and sharpened arrows.
EXPERTISE: Taiyo is adept in Kyūdō, able to effectively wield and utilize his bow in combat.
FLAW: GYNOPHOBIA > Taiyo has an irrational fear of women. It isn't severe enough for him to lose the effort to fight one at a range, but a distance of five meters or less can cause panic or fear.
APPEARANCE:
BACKGROUND: "...and now onto our latest segment, 'What should legally constitute a Hero?' Here with us is legal expert and renowned philosopher Takeshi Hideo on the subject."
"Thank you. I'd like to take a step back and remind everybody that times have changed since the advert of Quirks so many generations ago; laws and the question of morality among the super-powered government workers known as 'heroes' have been an endless debate which rages in all walks of life. For example - Oshiro Taiyo, who goes by the handle 'Dark Sun', has been a bit of a controversial figure lately. A member of the... well-known Oshiro family, his methodology and motives behind being a hero have been called into question. His most recent bout with a Quirkless Villain sent the perpetrator to the Hospital on several accounts of broken bones and puncture wounds."
"I see, I see. Some would claim that Dark Sun is simply doing 'whatever it takes' to protect the people rather than also trying to 'protect' the Villain and letting innocents get hurt."
"A popular theory, yes. One that shouldn't be held in high regard. A Hero must always attempt to solve conflict with as little injury as possible - it is public knowledge that this man has been sued several times due to 'overly aggressive force'. One case even won a payout of millions of Yen, yet Dark Sun seems to persist. Despite his purportedly normal upbringing and prestigious education at Shiketsu, he seems to have no 'objectively heroic' qualities to him."
"May I ask what you mean by that, doctor?"
"He seeks to inspire fear in Villains rather than hope in Civilians, treats all crime no matter what the motivation as pure evil, always uses excessive amounts of force, never makes public appearances, and once even went as far as to shout off a young girl simply trying to thank him!"
"Another popular argument in his defense is that he is doing what he legally is obligated to do as a government worker, and being a Hero doesn't necessarily mean you are required to do such things."
"Of course not." Pause. "That doesn't mean every Hero should strive to do such things. One could almost question where Dark Sun's actual loyalty and allegiances lie - to this country and its' people, or to another foul master such as revenge?"
"Thanks for your time, Doctor."
"Of course. If you'd like to hear more about this topic, I will be going over a different example tonight at 9 PM on my show..."
