NAME: Miyagi Muku | 宮城 夢駆
CODE NAME: Daydream | 空想
ALIGNMENT: Student | First Year
TITLE: N/A (TBD)
AGE: 15
GENDER: Male
QUIRK NAME: SLEEP CYCLE
QUIRK CLASSIFICATION: EMITTER
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Miyagi can transmit waves a (current) maximum of 5 millimeters from his fingertips! If the waves penetrate flesh, they send signals directly to the brain that disrupt the body's internal clock, which tricks the victim into thinking that it is earlier or later in the day than it actually is!
The real usefulness of SLEEP CYCLE can be seen when these waves are amplified; they can make someone's brain temporarily believe that their body desperately needs sleep even when full of energy, and conversely, temporarily fill an exhausted person with vigor.
I just want to note that this is not two quirks or half-and-half; it's one quirk with one power that realistically, has two practical purposes.
QUIRK POWER LIMIT: The signal takes about 0.3 seconds to transmit from a human's arm to the brain, with that time increasing for longer appendages (ex. tentacles). A single finger can incapacitate/invigorate a target for roughly 3 seconds. Therefore, a touch of the whole hand can do the same for 15 seconds, while both hands at the same time can do it for 30. While Miyagi can work comfortably under these limits (save for the Technical Limit below), he can break these limits by keeping his hands on his target. However, if he does this and goes beyond the normal time limit, as soon as the connection is broken he will enter a deep sleep. For every 1 second he goes beyond the limit, it's about 3 minutes of deep sleep. So, for example, if he tries to incapacitate a target for 5 minutes, he'll end up being put in a deep sleep for 13.5 hours. The absolute maximum time that Miyagi will ever be able to keep someone invigorated/incapacitated is 30 minutes. Before entering UA his maximum will be 1 minute, but that will be increased with training.
QUIRK TECHNICAL LIMIT: The range of SLEEP CYCLE slightly decreases each time when used in rapid succession against other people. If the range of SLEEP CYCLE ever gets < 0.5 millimeters, then the waves won't actually penetrate Miyagi's own skin, and therefore he won't be able to use it for the remainder of the thread.
QUIRK BARRIER: Surprisingly, the person that Miyagi struggles to use SLEEP CYCLE on the most is himself. He's grown reliant on using SLEEP CYCLE to keep himself awake, which after years of use turned him into a bit of an insomniac. This is because as of right now, Miyagi can't actually turn SLEEP CYCLE off. So, every time his fingers touch another part of himself, even on accident, he'll jolt awake or fall asleep on the spot. A similar thing happens if he touches someone else.
QUIRK FACTOR:
Power - 2
Finesse - 1
Stamina - 2
SUPER MOVE: "100 O'Clock Palm: A.M./P.M. Edition!" - Miyagi quickly rubs his fingertips together, causing them to glow a more intense shade of violet. The glow then grows to encompass the palms of his hands for a period of about 10 seconds. If Miyagi touches someone while in this state, his normal quirk will activate, but its potency will be increased by a factor of about 1.92x.
COSTUME: Miyagi's costume is a rather plain one. He sports a gray combat suit with a notable lack of gloves so that he can use his Quirk. There's also a hood that he can pull over his head. He has white combat boots and a thin, white belt around his waist. The flexibility of the costume, combined some high-end tech on UA's part, increases Miyagi's running speed. Of course, Miyagi won't be darting around as if he had a super-speed Quirk, but it does allow for him to move around slightly faster than the average, Quirkless human.
EXPERTISE: At the request of his parents, Miyagi now knows quite a bit of judo! He almost never uses it outside of hero business, but in combat it helps him touch his opponent when they're close to him.
FLAWS:
1. Miyagi has been diagnosed with doxaphobia, albeit a more mild form. This means that Miyagi has trouble expressing his own opinions out of a fear that they might be rejected. As a result, he's incredibly introverted and self-conscious, often introducing himself to people and then rarely ever speaking to them again. He has trouble making friends because of this, as his unwillingness to talk makes it seem as if he's rejecting anyone's attempt at being friendly towards him. In combat, this would manifest as miscommunication between him and other heroes he could (and should) be collaborating with. His parents are just about the only exception to this fear.
2. Miyagi also gets incredibly anxious under immense pressure. More specifically, the more people he thinks are watching him, the more clumsy he becomes. While he's fine if it's just him, a couple of villains, and a couple of allies, as soon as he realizes (or believes) that he's being televised, or just watched by a live crowd, his work becomes noticeably more sloppy. Teachers, students and virtually anyone who has seen him training can pick up on this rather quickly. And while this fear can be eased with time and experience, it won't ever really go away.
APPEARANCE: (PICTURES WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON-ISH)
Miyagi's rather short for his age, barely touching the 5'0" mark. His nimbleness comes from his build; despite his resilience towards heroics his body looks surprisingly frail. His muscles seem smaller than most other kids at UA. His most notable and apparent feature is his black bed head hair, which goes in about every possible. It also entirely covers his eyes and about 90% of his nose. When drowsy, his eyes resemble those swirly-eyes that some anime characters get when they're knocked out, drunk, etc.
His casual attire consists of a long, dull amethyst purple t-shirt that's about four times his size. It's covered in space-related decals: stars, galaxies, planets and whatnot. Though the shirt covers most of it, he also wears a pair of gray athletic shorts with two gray stripes on each side. He wears brown sandals out in public, and teal-green fuzzy slippers around his own house.
BACKGROUND:
"And you're sure about this, Muku?",a concerned Ms. Miyagi asked. Muku hesitated. The answer was, of course, no. A frail-looking boy with a nigh useless Quirk had an infinitesimally small chance at getting into a school like UA. Muku had heard stories, albeit they were mere rumors, about how difficult the entrance exam was, too. He was about as far from "sure" as he could possibly be. "Y-Yeah... yeah, I'm sure... I'm sure that I'm sure.", Muku said in a pitiful attempt at giving himself a bit of confidence.
Nothing about Muku's story could really stand out in the admissions process. He was born in a nuclear family; his mother and father worked with the government. His older sister, Miyagi Tanji, was in college studying to be a part-time hero under the code name Insomnia. Muku was the one who gave her the idea, as her Quirk increases her body's durability, strength and speed the more sleepy she gets and as Tanji put it, "justice never sleeps". It wasn't like she was some big-time hero everyone in the district knew the name of, but Muku always looked up to her. That's why he had to make himself be sure.
"Please, be careful. I've heard the entrance exam is really tough on prospective students, so please don't get yourself hurt, ok?!" Ms. Miyagi said. "I-I think I'll be fine... maybe. Even if I d-don't pass, there's all the other schools too. So... *yawn*... I'm going to give it my all, ok? W-We'll just... we'll just see what happens."
