NAME: Oshiro Kousuke
AGE: 15
GENDER: Boy (Him/His)
QUIRK NAME: EGO DEPLETION
QUIRK CLASSIFICATION: EMITTER
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Kousuke's quirk allows him to store energy inside of his body that he can then tap into and use to alter the world around him via sheer willpower. With this power he can, telekinetically move objects, infuse objects with kinetic energy to accelerate them to high speeds, or simply apply pressure or force to an area. Whenever he taps into it, his eyes and hands glow, as do the objects or areas he uses his power on.
QUIRK POWER LIMIT: Kousuke can only maintain his power for ten to fifteen minutes at most before he's used up his stockpile and needs to "recharge". This will leave his mind and body both fatigued, and he will have a difficult time moving or performing any hard thinking until he's recovered. If he tries to tap into his power while "empty" or "running on fumes", he runs the risk of unconsciousness or death. In addition, applying full-force impacts or moving heavier objects will drain his power faster.
QUIRK FACTOR:
Power - 2
Finesse - 2
Stamina - 1
FLAW: DOUBLE DOG DARE YA - Due to how he was raised Kousuke cannot resist a dare or challenge to his abilities. To fail to step up would be to show weakness or fear or lack of ability. And an Oshiro cannot show weakness, even one with a powerful quirk. This means that he will accept a condition to "challenge" himself even if doing so would be detrimental to his success. He'll also have a hard time backing down from a dare, even if he knows it is stupid.
APPEARANCE: Kousuke is about 179 cm tall (5'10-1/2"), with a lithe build. He has dark hair and eyes, and usually has dark bags under said eyes. He also has a serious case of resting-bitch-face, as the kids say.
BACKGROUND: Kousuke did not have a happy childhood. It's not that his family was poor, or that he was bullied by his classmates. On the contrary, his family's wealth meant that every material need of his was beyond met. All of his meals were cooked by professional chefs. His bedroom was larger than the average salaryman's apartment. And he was given an excellent education by his family members and private tutors, along with quirk training and coaching from a young age. However, his emotional needs were largely ignored. There was no love between his parents, and none from them for him.
Kousuke was born into the Oshiro clan, as the product of a "quirk-marriage". Or, rather, he's the product of several quirk-marriages via what some circles call "The Oshiro Method" (behind closed doors). His grandfather, Daichi, possesses the quirk "Slowpunch", which allows him to store power in his limbs for ten minutes, before releasing it as a single, empowered kick or punch. His third wife, a woman by the name of "Nami", had a quirk that allowed her to summon and control water in her environment. Before she entered menopause, and was thus divorced, she produced three children with Daichi. The eldest, Hideki, only possessed a weakened version of his mother's quirk, and was written off as a failure. The third child was born with Daichi's quirk. However, the middle child, Kousuke's mother, possessed a hybrid quirk "Sponge", which let her absorb and release water at will. She could also control water, either by willing to to herself, or shooting it out in precise patterns and jets. Under her father's training, she became a formidable pro-hero... And a very desirable partner for quirk-breeding.
So it was that a young hero with the quirk "Puppet" (which lets him control people and objects via psychic puppet strings), arranged for marriage into the Oshiro clan. As he didn't have a powerful family behind him, he was absorbed into the Oshiro clan. At Daichi's insistence, the young man's hero agency was merged with Kousuke's mother's agency, and brought into the Oshiro network. His surname was also changed, rather than his wife's, to make him, and any future children, an Oshiro. Daichi would also need to have the final say-so about names, as well as any decisions about the childrens' education and future.
This marriage produced two children, Kousuke and his younger sister. Like with most of the young children of the Oshiro clan, the pair were left under the "care" of their grandfather, Daichi, on the grounds of his mansion before their quirks manifested. Both of their parents were busy pro heroes, after all! However, Daichi's health was declining even by the time that Kousuke was born. He simply wasn't able to leave his bed and actually take care of the children. So, Kousuke and his sister were dumped off on their maternal uncle, Hideki, leaving him to do most of the actual "raising" part. Hideki was the one that made sure Kousuke was given an education up to Japan's standards, and he personally taught Kousuke how to read and write and do basic arithmetic. Hideki was the one that tended to Kousuke's injuries after particularly brutal training sessions. Hideki was the one that tucked Kousuke and his sister in at night. He was the one that read them bedtime stories. Hideki was the one that tried to teach Kousuke right from wrong. Hideki was the one that let Kousuke watch the videos and news reports of his favorite heroes, like Hardstar, despite Daichi explicitly forbidding it.
Hideki was also the first to witness Kousuke's quirk when it manifested. Kousuke had really wanted an apple and some peanut butter as a snack to go with TV time. Which consisted of watching the exploits of his favorite hero Hardstar (who Uncle had once told him was his aunt), followed by some animal documentaries (Uncle never let Kousuke watch "trash" like anime or cartoons). Rather than asking his uncle for the snack, or one of the chefs, Kousuke decided that he would make it himself. He was five, after all, it was time he started to grow up! He reached for the apple and knife and peanut butter he'd seen on the counter. He reached... reached... but as a tiny child, he simply wasn't tall enough to get his hands over the top of the counter. But... he wanted... wanted... Kousuke woke up five minutes later with an apple in his hands, a knife on the floor by him, and the peanut butter jar on his chest. Uncle was fretting over him, having watched Kousuke pull the apple, peanut butter, and knife to himself through the air before going unconscious. Kousuke was just tired, and asked his uncle to make the snack instead.
After that came a series of audiences with Daichi. Tests to see what his quirk could do. It started out innocuous enough. He was put in front of a shelf too tall for him to reach, with an apple placed upon it. He was asked to reach for it, to want it, to pull it by his aging grandfather. He got it down with a thought, and this time didn't fall asleep. He presented the apple to his grandfather rather proudly... Daichi, the old, withered man, smiled... then he spoke...
"Good, very good, my boy. Now do it again. But this time, move that."
The old man's gnarled hand then pointed to the metal, one kilo weight that an assistant of his was placing on the same shelf. Kousuke steeled himself. He felt a bit tired, but... surely the weight wouldn't be that hard to move, right? He'd already gotten the apple down pat! The boy was made to lift the weight and get it down from the shelf. Then again. And again. And again. After the fourth time, he was crying. By the sixth time, he was vomiting, and his legs were weak. By the tenth time, he was unconscious. Though, only for a moment. Then he was woken up to continue the test. The next day, he was brought in again, this time with a five kilogram weight. He was made to repeat the previous tests again, but for just a bit longer. This process was repeated every day for seven days, with each day bringing heavier weight, and more and more repetitions. Over and over and over...
On the eighth day, however, there were no more tests. Instead, there was tea and snacks. And a name for Kousuke's quirk, "Ego Depletion", based off of an old psychological theory that Daichi had looked up long ago. After a short time chatting, and being told that he had a lot of potential, Kousuke was sent off to bed early to rest. On the ninth day, he started his training under Daichi's specialized plan. He spent hours lifting heavier and heavier objects, manipulating liquids and complex creations, infusing items that he was manipulating with extra energy to send them flying at targets, just using his power to crush objects in his mental grasp. He would do all of these things over and over and over and over, until his body gave out. Every. Single. Day. Until his maximum limit rose from less than a minute... to five minutes... to ten minutes... to fifteen minutes if he really pushed himself. He worked until he could lift chunks of concrete and send them flying at a target hundreds of feet away with pinpoint accuracy, or crush them into dust with a thought and a clenching of his fist. He did this, not because he was driven to succeed... but because of the punishments that awaited him if he did not perform to Daichi's standards.
The things that Daichi would do, or, rather the things that he would order the "quirk counselors" to do if Kousuke showed any perceived weakness, slacking off, or failure during training are better left unsaid.
Kousuke's quirk also brought competition. Cousins that had formerly been playmates were now rivals for resources and Daichi's attention and the "family slot" for UA. Aunts and uncles that Kousuke had once trusted became manipulative enemies, pouncing on any "weakness" that he showed. Admitting to struggling in his studies and training, showing strong emotions in response to mockery, or even showing affection or kindness to his family members was always punished. This cycle led to Kousuke slowly growing a mask, trying to never show or experience any strong emotions or indicate that he was having trouble. By the time he entered middle school, the first time he was allowed around kids outside of his family, the apathetic, unflappable mask that he had to wear at home became a near-permanent habit.
Between training and schooling, Kousuke would sometimes have the free time to explore the family mansion and its grounds. He limited himself to unlocked doors and open parts of the grounds, at first. Then he learned how to pick some of the locks, and expanded his horizons. He overheard conversations he wasn't meant to hear. He learned things he wasn't meant to learn. He learned how ill his grandfather really was, and how little time he had left. He learned how contested the inheritance of Daichi's estate was, and that nobody knew if the old man had even written a will. He learned how the quirkless children were treated behind closed doors, as well as children with "weak" quirks. He learned how his cousins treated his sister when he wasn't around to protect her. Most importantly, he learned just how unstable his family was. How it would inevitably all fall apart without the patriarch to guide things.
So, after passing the entrance exam for UA and joining the hero course, Kousuke has one goal. To become a pro hero like his aunt, separated from the Oshiro clan's tangled web of connected agencies. Why? So he can offer his uncle and sister a safe place to go, when the Oshiro clan inevitably falls apart.

If he tries to tap into his power while "empty" or "running on fumes", he runs the risk of unconsciousness or death. In addition, applying full-force impacts or moving heavier objects will drain his power faster.
QUIRK TECHNICAL LIMIT: As his quirk relies on the body and mind's own energy, the amount of "ego" stored is negatively affected by poor health, lack of sleep, lack of food and water, and lack of exercise. Overuse of his quirk can leave Kousuke with lingering fatigue and a lack of motivation until he's fully recovered and achieved equilibrium. In addition, it's hard to hide activating his quirk as Kousuke's eyes and hands glow, along with the items he's interacting with. Finally, Kousuke must be aware of an item to interact with it, which means either seeing it or knowing where it is.
QUIRK BARRIER (Students ONLY): Kousuke taps into his power unconsciously every time he feels strong emotions. Positive or negative, unbridled joy or burning rage, either side of the emotional spectrum can cause an item to suddenly fly into the air, or a dent to suddenly appear in the wall.
QUIRK FACTOR:
Power - 2
Finesse - 2
Stamina - 1
SUPER MOVE: BAD TIME > Kousuke reaches deep inside, drawing out all of his remaining "ego" to launch a telekinetic storm around himself. He grabs any and all loose objects around him with his power, then infuses them with extra energy to send them flying towards his opponent at high speeds. Usually while also trying to "grab" his opponent or crush them under the weight of the force he can exert.
COSTUME: Kousuke's hero costume currently consists of denim jacket over a zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a pair of cargo pants, a hardshell backpack, and a big ol' pair of stomping boots. There are also lengths of chains, along with manacles and locks, wrapped around his forearms and shins, and also inside the backpack. They're made out of a lightweight, yet durable and strong, alloy and can detach from the costume, allowing for quick capture of villains. In a bind, they can also be used as weapons.
EXPERTISE: Locksmithing - Due to watching tutorials online growing up, and sneaking into parts of the Oshiro grounds that he wasn't supposed to, Kousuke has become knowledgeable about the inner workings of many types of lock. He can pick most of the commercially available locks, and is usually able to figure out a mechanical lock that he's exposed to.FLAW: DOUBLE DOG DARE YA - Due to how he was raised Kousuke cannot resist a dare or challenge to his abilities.
