The bell chimed its last few notes as students rushed swiftly to their classes. It was about 12:45 in the afternoon, lunch had just finished and as such most of the students were relatively relaxed and docile. Here at UA Academy – a Teacher would find these sorts of moments as perfect scheduling, especially if that teacher maintained their primary job as often as this one did. As room 202 filled to near capacity, a stern looking young man entered the room slamming the door shut.
Beige vest over a black dress shirt, the Man seemed to adorn a fashionable if not practical style – almost looking like a private investigator or detective from a corny black and white. Even the 5’oclock shadow seemed to match the appearance perfectly. As the man turned to regard the class, he took stock of each and every face, trying to paint a mental picture for when he took attendance. It wasn’t much, but he did like to put names to faces as much as possible if only to be respectful.
“Alright class, settle down – settle down”. Even the voice, a soft tenor, seemed gritted and sharp. A bi-product of his time on the streets he’d supposed.
“Welcome to Heroic Philosophy 101; I’m your Teacher – Mr. Shaman. You may know me by my Hero name – “The Warden”. Please state your name and stand when I call upon you so that I may ensure attendance. Once we’re done with that – I’ll begin our class lesson for the year.”
Walking towards the blackboard, Descartes Shaman would begin writing things down, including his name and the beginning of the classes lesson plan. He went into the monotony as something he’d recalled one of his teachers doing something akin to this on his first day. Once he finished, he’d turn and regard the class and begin taking the attendance as he’d stated.
Upon the blackboard was written:
Today’s lesson plan:
- We will discuss what it means to be a Hero.
- What can be considered “Lofty” or “Avaricial” goals
- How to avoid being overtaken by the fame of becoming a Hero.
It seemed relatively straight-forward. Descartes had spoken briefly with Principal Nezu about what he’d teach over this semester and, according to him, the school was woefully understaffed and as such many Heroes were playing double duty. Initially, he’d been instructed to teach Quirk and Non-Quirk related combat down in the Practice Zones; Nevertheless, when the opportunity to help in the school had come up, he found himself in nary a position to deny the request. Still, it wasn’t all bad. Influencing a student’s mind as well as teaching them vital life skills was indeed just as noble a purpose as combat. If not more so!
Slowly, surely, he called off each name; Awaiting the corresponding student to stand and introduce themselves.
