QUIRK NAME: SLINKY LIMBS
QUIRK CLASSIFICATION: MUTANT
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Slinky Limbs is a quirk that, as its name implies, makes it so that its user lacks the basic flesh and bone appendages of a normal human, and instead has their limbs replaced with long, slinky-like and apparently metallic limbs that are about the same length as a normal person's arms or legs when tightly coiled up. The user can extend these limbs, of course. The fully extended arms can reach all the way to about 20 feet (or 6 meters) long, and the fully extended legs are about 30 feet (or 9 meters) long. They extend at the speed the average person would be able to throw their fist forward, so around 10-20 MPH (16-32 KMH) depending on the effort put into the thrust.
As a consequence, though, the user has the curled ends of a slinky instead of hands and feet at the ends of these limbs. This makes most of the more basic tasks in life, such as writing, eating, walking, etc. much more of a task than they normally would be, though the user can adapt via either a lot of practice or the use of additional prosthetics for help. The user also lacks the rigid joints of normal limbs, which can, again, lead to additional difficulties without practice or prosthetics for help.
QUIRK POWER LIMIT: As their limbs are simply what they are, the user doesn't have any sort of limit for passively 'using' their quirk, but despite their metallic appearance, the spring limbs still grow fatigued and feel pain, and extending them only increases their vulnerability. While quite shock absorbent and far from vulnerable to blunt blows while coiled up, an extended limb grows more brittle and tight the longer it is, and as such, can be more easily wounded, or even snapped.
QUIRK TECHNICAL LIMIT: As a further consequence of their extendability, very long things tend to get pretty difficult to properly aim. Shorter distances up to about three meters or so are still feasibly within precise enough range, but anything too far past that and it's basically a crap shoot when it comes to being on target. Their lack of a rigid bone structure also means it is very difficult for the user to hold up anything of substantial weight without their limbs simply collapsing to the ground under such weight. This includes the user themselves - trying to expand the legs to lift the main body up off the ground usually only ends up in a forehead landing against the pavement after just a few feet of extension.
QUIRK BARRIER: Anbi in particular is quite the self conscious one when it comes to how much her quirk seems to make her stand out, from both how clumsily it can make her act and how gracelessly it tends to perform. As a result, she's generally reluctant to even extend her limbs the tiniest bit past where they'll be safely covered up by her clothing, which has a tendency to also severely limit the utility of her quirk.
QUIRK FACTOR:
Power 2
Finesse 1
Stamina 2
SUPER MOVE: HAMSTER BALL > Using the full extent of all four of her limbs, Anbi has them extend and wrap around her to form a tightly packed sphere all around her entire body! What's more, she can even roll around in it, and there's room for a second person to hide inside the ball with her! All the strain it requires to keep the limbs extended like that though means Anbi can also only hold the pose for a few minutes at a time, and it leaves her pretty exhausted afterwards. Repeated hard impacts against the ball also shorten the amount of time she can manage to hold it.
COSTUME: BOXING GLOVES > Anbi has specially made boxing gloves attached to the ends of her arms with a little bit of extra weight to them that allow her punches to actually manage to pack a punch. The annoying part is that they cause her arms to sag a bit when they're coiled up, though.
EXPERTISE: Anbi is an adept reader and an almost obsessive researcher - if she puts her mind to learning a topic, she knows exactly where to go to find all the proper resources for it. Retaining all the information isn't her strong suit, though, so she has notebooks and post-it notes littering her room full of scribbles and notes. Of course, she has to have heard about something before she can research it.
FLAW: Social anxiety is Anbi's biggest weakness, and though she occasionally tries her hardest to confront it, it just doesn't seem like she'll ever quite shake it. Too often has she found herself pumping herself up to go to a party or some gathering only to end up locking herself in the bathroom on the verge of tears from stress within about twenty minutes. Smaller groups she usually fares okay in, but when she's put on a pedestal, she tends to falter.
APPEARANCE:
BACKGROUND: "We're reporting to you live from just outside of UA Academy," the reporter stated in front of the camera, "Where we're hoping we can get an inside scoop from one of the students about this latest story." The reporter glanced behind him, and while various students were filtering out of the school, one in particular caught his eye. Unlike most of the other kids, this one was sulking alone, and... In full winter clothing, with a large fur coat and snow pants. Interesting. "And I think we have a perfect young lady right over here," he stated as he motioned for the camera to approach the student with him. "Excuse me ma'am, may we ask you a few questions?"
The young lady seemed confused at first, though the confusion of the bit of her face they could see beneath the hood quickly turned into what seemed to be an expression of great fear. "Oh... No... I..." Wide eyes stared at the TV camera, and they covered their face up with their hands, which were also covered by a pair of bright mittens. "Oh, don't be afraid, ma'am, we'll blur your face if you don't wish to be on TV," the reporter quickly stated, now even more interested in the potential scoop from this odd child. Still, they didn't lower the mittens from their face. But they did reply. "Wh-What is it?" she asked. Alright, a start!
"To begin with, can I get your name and age?" "You said nobody would know it was me," the girl quickly responded. Well, he had her there. "Right you are, my apologies," the reporter said without skipping a beat. "How long have you been going to this school?" There was a brief pause, but she answered, "This is my first year." "What an accomplishment, your parents must be very proud!" Another pause, and another quiet answer muffled by the mittens. Maybe this girl wasn't the ideal interview candidate after all. "I live with my aunt and uncle. Th-they are proud."
"And where are your parents?" "...Abroad." He waited a bit for an additional answer, but one didn't seem to be coming. "And why did you want to come to UA, to be a hero?" "...Yeah." Alright, this one he wouldn't just let slide without a further elaboration. "And why do you want to be a hero, young lady?" There was, potentially, the longest pause yet, but she did finally answer. "Because... Someone stole my bike... And I never got it back, and... I don't want other kids to get their bikes stolen." Th-That was it? An entire long, hard, and quite dangerous career, for a stolen bike?
This time it was the TV reporter who paused, until he finally said, "Well... Chivalry comes in many forms, ladies and gents!" At least now that the introductions were over, he could get to the real meat and potatoes. "Now, young lady, what do you think of the allegations surrounding the disappearance of that third year student, Suziyama Koichi?" The young girl, for the first time, lowered her mittens from her face. "Oh... Him? Let me see." She turned towards her backpack, and ruffled through what seemed to be a lot of notebooks inside, until she pulled a bright red one out and began to read from it.
"F-From what I gathered, he was... My face is blurred, right?" The reporter nodded. So, she continued. "From what I gathered, he was last seen a few hours after school on Tuesday. Some friends had heard him talking about a 'big score', which police have come to theorize meant he was getting involved with some bad people. However, they found traces of his blood outside of a known villain hub in the area following reports of a loud disturbance-" "Um, I thought that was classifie-" "So they're currently suspecting the deal went South and he was murder-" "Okay, thank you for your time!" "But I wasn't don-" Before she knew, Anbi had been left by the reporters, who had decided to go after a separate group of more chatty looking students.
Later that night, she also ended up having to explain to her Aunt and Uncle why several police officers were at their front door and questioning where she'd gained access to highly confidential information.
